Daisy the Duck Who Did Things Differently
(Ages 3–12)
Daisy was not your average duck.
While the other ducks rushed through their day, Daisy liked to do things a
little... differently.
She danced in puddles instead of just waddling through them.
She made up songs about spaghetti during lunchtime. And when it was time to line up, she always let others go first—because she liked watching how everyone’s feathers fluffed in the sunlight.
The other ducks would quack, “Come on, Daisy!”
“Why are you always so slow?”
“Why are you smiling at clouds?”
Daisy would just grin and say, “Because clouds look like marshmallow spaceships today. Don’t you see it?”
Some days she helped the teacher carry crayons. Other days, she made silly faces at the ducklings who felt shy. Once, she gave her last cookie to a duck who forgot their snack—and didn’t even make a big deal about it.
“Why’d you do that?” a friend asked.
“Because sharing cookies is way more fun than eating alone,” Daisy said with a shrug.
At recess, Daisy didn’t just run—she skipped, twirled, and stopped every so often to admire sparkly pebbles or talk to ants.
“Yes, ants,” she would say. “They’re tiny, but they’ve got BIG plans.”
When Daisy sat on the swing, she’d close her eyes and shout,
“I’m flying through a blueberry sky!”
The other ducks started laughing—but not at her.
.
With her.
Because Daisy was right. Life felt better when you slowed down, looked around, and made it fun.
Soon, more ducks started noticing things.
Like how the grass smelled sweet after rain.
Or how fun it was to give someone a compliment.
Or how kindness made the day feel lighter.
They still splashed and played and ran around. But now they made time to giggle, to help, to say “thank you,” and to look up at the sky just to wonder.
Daisy didn’t need to win races or be the loudest in the pond.
She just showed everyone that the best kind of day…
is one where you smile often, help when you can, and enjoy the moment you’re in.
Be kind. Be curious. Be a little silly.
Life is better when you do.
